Point 11: Lakeside Methodist Church – Historic Marker 

Lakeside Methodist Church has served as a center of Black excellence since its founding in 1866.  The first city-funded school for Black children met in its basement. The congregation built a new church building at 3739 Meridian Street in 1968. Sadly, the original Lakeside Methodist church building burned in 1968.
